Why Should You Be Part of the Savannah Waterfront Association?

The Savannah Waterfront Association has been the primary representative of the River Street area merchants for more than 30 years. Acting as liaison with the City of Savannah and with Chatham County, the Savannah Waterfront Association has represented the merchants in dealing with countless issues as diverse as traffic, refuse, and safety.

Our City and County officials respond more efficiently when they can work with a group representing one voice on issues and your Savannah Waterfront Association has steadfastly been that voice. We would like to ask you to join us and have your voice heard.

· Did you know that it was through the efforts of the SWA that the first – ever public boat docks were built along the Waterfront?

· Did you realize that the Association, without any public funding, produces a year-long Festival series (over 25 events) that rivals much larger cities, as our way of not only marketing River Street to the world, but as a way to get large numbers of people to come to River Street?

· Did you know that it was a joint effort between the SWA and the City and CVB that produced the River Street Visitor Center and Restroom complex?

· Did you know that it was another joint venture between the SWA and the City, County, and CVB that brought the first Tall Ships Festival to River Street?

· Did you know that it was through the Waterfront Association that Directional Signs for all our businesses were first installed on River Street?

· Did you know that the Association has to pay approximately $5000 to the City in plaza rental fees for each of our large, 3-day Festivals?

· Did you know that the SWA pays more than $130,000 every year for City Police Officers for Festival Security?

· Did you know that the Savannah Waterfront Association is the sole producer of the City and County’s annual July 4th Fireworks and Celebration? (The City and County contribute to this effort as well).

· Did you know the SWA is always represented in any City or County discussions that could or would impact the historic Savannah Waterfront area?

· Did you know that the Association was part of the community team that produced the 1996 Olympic Yachting Ceremonies on River Street and was responsible for the fantastic Fireworks Finale for the Opening Ceremonies?

· Did you know that it was the Waterfront Association that brought in the Tall Ship, the HMS Bounty for a weekend stay?

· Did you know that YOUR VOICE can make a difference?
