The Savannah Waterfront Association (SWA) is very proud to announce a great community event will take place on Friday, September 24, 2010! The American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) will present, “Light up the Night for Life”, along the Savannah’s historic river front. The fireworks extravaganza will be the signature finale of APA’s week long convention in Savannah. This pyro-musical will be “the largest display to ever grace the Savannah skies”, said Brent Fisher, Falcon Fireworks, who has designed and choreographed the display. Falcon Fireworks is located in Guyton, Georgia, and the company is serving as APA’s local host for the convention.
“Light Up the Night for Life”, is the APA’s first charitable event under a theme to “Light the Way for Others”, said Julie L. Heckman, APA’s Executive Director. The APA selected a national partner, The Nicholas Green Foundation, to benefit from a morning breakfast held during APA’s convention and a local partner, Donate Life Georgia, to benefit from the fireworks extravaganza. “We are extremely proud of the overwhelming support that we have received from the Savannah Waterfront Association and its members; the entire community is coming together to help raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation and to make charitable contributions to our selected charities”, added Heckman. Volunteers from Donate Life Georgia will be scattered around the city collecting cash donations just prior to the evening fireworks and we hope that the general public who gather for the fireworks display will make a cash donation. Every penny collected will go directly to Donate Life Georgia.
“The Savannah Waterfront Association and the River Street community not only applaud the APA for selecting Savannah as the convention site, but for making this private event a public celebration and fundraiser for organ donation programs and awareness” says Kenny Hill, Executive Director of the SWA.
The show Friday night will begin over the Savannah River around 9:45pm. The Friday night spectacular is choreographed and will be simulcast on Cumulus Station I-95 (WIXV 95.5 FM) and the public is encouraged to bring their portable radios tuned in to share! Beverages, Repicci’s Italian Ices, Donate Life Georgia Information Booth, DJ’s to Go and more will be available on Rousakis Plaza as well as the many great restaurants, shops and pubs.
Local businesses from the Riverfront community are joining the APA in their fundraising efforts for organ donation charities Friday, September 24. Ample and easy parking will be available at the Savannah Trade Center on Hutcheson Island for only $3.00 per vehicle; $1.00 of that fee will benefit “Donate Life Georgia”! The Westin Savannah Harbor will also host a fundraising event from 7 until 10pm and the following River Street restaurants will be donating percentages of their night to the causes: EXCHANGE TAVERN, HUEYS, FIDDLER’S, ONE EYED LIZZY’S, OYSTER BAR, RIVER HOUSE SEAFOOD, SPANKY’S, TUBBY’S and WET WILLIE’S! Please support these fine establishments as they support these important and life-saving causes!
Although this event is a community gift from the American Pyrotechnics Association, the River Street Festival Series occurring monthly is presented by Verizon Wireless and Southern Eagle Distributors and is sponsored by Wet Willie’s, Coke, Wachovia-Wells Fargo, Repicci’s Italian Ice & Coffee, Yates Astro and Cumulus Broadcasting-Savannah; the events are organized and hosted by the Savannah Waterfront Association.
